KidWind Team Wins National Championship
Glasgow Middle’s 2019 KidWind team won the national middle school champion and wind tracker awards at the KidWind National Competition. In order to win their national award, the team of Arthur Prudius, Darren Nguyen, and Edward Meagh had to solve a critical on-site design problem. Their solution was key to allowing them to become the top contender in the yawing tunnel and securing the Wind Tracker Champions’ award. Under the name Team Zephyr, the three students competed in two regional competitions and one national competition. The team qualified to attend the national competition by winning second place in the open generator competition at the Dominion Energy KidWind Challenge. These first-time competitors also won the Geek Award by scoring the highest on the middle school division knowledge test. Applying lessons learned in their technology class, the team used their 3D printing skills to print their turbine and won first place and the best blade design award at a KidWind regional competition in Washington, D.C.
