Welcome, Principal Powell!

victor powellThe Region 2 Office is pleased to announce that Mr. Victor Powell, current Principal at Matthew Maury Elementary School (Alexandria City Public Schools), has been named the new principal of Glasgow Middle School. 

Mr. Powell brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences to Glasgow Middle School and to Fairfax County Public Schools.  Mr. Powell has served as the principal of Maury Elementary School for the last four years, where he has fostered a responsive and caring climate where all students are valued through the development of a strong and inclusive culture.   Prior to his selection as principal, his administrative experiences include serving as an assistant principal in both Alexandria City Public Schools and Loudoun County Public Schools.  His other roles include dean of students at Freedom High School in Loudoun County and an elementary and middle school math teacher.

Mr. Powell’s many educational experiences have prepared him well to lead Glasgow Middle School.  He has a deep understanding of the work of Professional Learning Communities which will ensure that the school sustains its present levels of academic performance.  In his current role as a principal, he has played a pivotal role in the implementation and evaluation of the Reading and Math Workshops. He has established himself as a dynamic, highly visible, and collaborative leader with students, staff, and the community at large.  As a former middle school mathematics teacher, he brings a deep understanding of teaching, assessments for learning, and the importance of high-quality instruction.  He understands that students must believe that they can achieve and he understands that the school serves as a catalyst for that learning. 

Mr. Powell is a caring leader who brings years of student-centered instructional leadership experience with him.  His leadership style and strong ability to build relationships with students, staff, and families promote a positive and engaging school climate.  Mr. Powell has proven to be an effective communicator, and he is eager to deepen the relationships with all stakeholders.  Mr. Powell is a strong instructional leader with a passion for teacher leadership, quality instruction, building strong community relations, and student success. He believes that every student should be provided with the same access and opportunities to rigorous and relevant programming provided through the IB/MYP and that the IB program is a key platform to develop global thinkers with a growth mindset.  His extensive and unique skills will serve the Glasgow Middle School staff, students, parents, and community well.

Mr. Powell earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Anderson University and a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Powell as the new principal of Glasgow Middle School. His official start date will be May 3, 2021.
