Asynchronous and Synchronous Learning
Asynchronous and Synchronous Learning
These are new words that you might hear your teachers say over the next eight weeks. Let’s define them before we explain what your week will look like.
Asynchronous:
Students can complete assignments at any time
Synchronous:
Teacher and students are online working together at the same time.
Asynchronous Learning at Glasgow:
Five days per week, students will be able to access their lessons for their core classes (English, Math, History, Science, and World Languages), and two times per week for electives (Health & Physical Education, Arts, and Design classes). These lessons, linked into the Glasgow Grid, are asynchronous. Students can do them any time during the day or evening, as they are able. Each one of these lessons should take about 30 minutes to complete.
Synchronous Learning at Glasgow:
On Wednesdays and Fridays, teachers of core classes (English, Math, History, Science, and World Languages) will also be available according to the schedule above to provide synchronous learning opportunities and support for students. Students in that period can choose to interact with the teacher, ask questions to clarify lessons, get feedback, and further their understanding through discussions.
Office Hours:
Electives teachers and Core Teachers will be available on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday for Office Hours. During this time, they can provide additional support and answer any questions you might have about your lessons. Information about Office Hours will be explained later in the syllabus.
All teachers will be available via email every day and will do their best to respond to families within a 24 hour time period. We ask that families recognize and understand that our staff members are also balancing home and family challenges along with supporting students’ instructional needs.
